Dear Fellow Reader,
Welcome to the website of Odea. After much deliberation and considerations, we decided to go along with the developments around us. Everyone can now get a computer and everyone wants to look and search on the Internet. So why not Odea.
I like me as president of the Odea and CNO to you. My name is Richard Alexander Maxwell, born 12/24/1946. After my school years, I left for the Netherlands in 1965, and June 8, 2010, was exactly 45 years since I began my career in Nursing at St. Joseph's Foundation in Apeldoorn in that time my B-Diploma. After several further courses have gone through, I finished my Teacher Training in Nursing in 1976 at the Social Academy in Hengelo (Twente) Netherlands.
My "passion" for nursing is still like 45 years ago. When I now, in 2010 would begin studies with me, I would have done exactly the same as 45 years ago!
In 1979, I am a big challenge. For the first time there was a vacancy for the nuns or religious nurses to replace the section "Training for Nurses" in Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital. In those years, as did male person was not just a scoop, but also a farewell and momentum of a historical event.
If the training had remained in the hospital - it would be in September 2010, 50 years ago that the Religious of the first nurse training in Aruba - launched! The first group of graduates have some retired and some still work with full force!
On January 18, 1989 I have the "Organisacion Enfermeronan di di Aruba (Odea), the Aruban Nursing Professional Organization" was established after Aruba's "Status Apartus" (a separate status in the kingdom) has received. We made this part of the "Di Organisacion Enfermeronan di Antillas Inglés (Odeon), the Nursing Association of the Netherlands Antilles.
I was the first president and now 20 years later (2008), I again re-elected as chairman and quite coincidentally Gaudeloupe in 2008, was elected chairman of the Caribbean Nurses Organization (CNO)!
My biggest wish when I say goodbye do the work in the care / nursing is that Odea by all stakeholders (health care institutions and policy makers) in health care as an equal partner due and will be accepted when decisions must be taken within the health. This is because nurses are the largest group of health care and that he can not escape! One Country, One Voice One Vote!
This website contains much information in different languages and gives an overview of past and future activities. One of these activities is the Caribeean Nurses Organization (CNO) 27th Biennial Conference which will take place in October.
As part of the photos we want it fun and engaging for you and surprise you with a lot of past activities. Look well because they might see yourself on the website of Odea. There are also many links to your more informed of developments in healthcare, both national and international level.
Hopefully this website will also be the medium from which nurses and caretakers or (or) other work in the care, they will receive relevant information, while the medium for information exchange. In so doing it will / can communicate with us and contribute to a "Strong Nursing Body for Aruba.
Happy reading and enjoy our website.
